Nomsa’s heart is to see holistic sustainable life change in the lives of our homeless friends.
If that is to happen, there must be awareness.
We are seeking to better understand this problem ourselves and expose the true brokenness behind homelessness, and invite others to do the same.
Figures and statistics do not tell stories.
Behind every number is a name, a face, a story.
The stories of our homeless friends have broken our hearts and changed our lives.
We must tell their stories.
The Journey is an awareness project centered around stories.
A team of six people consisting of Nomsa staff, as well as a few talented, creative minds and friends with hearts heavy for this cause will travel from Orlando, FL to Seattle, WA and back, experiencing 15 cities in a three month time period.
Our mission is to Experience, Observe, and Share the reality of homelessness in America.
Experience: The team will sleep in homeless shelters, camps, on the streets, under bridges, wherever our homeless friends are able to rest their heads, and eating at public feedings for the homeless.
Observe: During our time experiencing we will see firsthand what organizations are doing to help or hurt the problem of homeless. We will be connecting with organizations and seeing how they operate. What are they doing right? Is there any traction toward sustainable change or is the problem just being perpetuated?
Share: Throughout the trip we will be updating our social networks and website blog with text, video, and audio from our experience and observation. Our heart is to allow conversations to happen while we are in the midst of this trip. When we return we will be creating artistic pieces from the video, writing, music, audio, and other documenting we do during the trip.
With these stories, we hope to awaken America to the reality of homelessness.
